BLC x RBN
This morning (26th, 12 - 24), we visited Rumah Baca Nusa (RBN), a small haven for book lovers located in Desa Ganti, Praya Timur.
We were warmly welcomed by the management of Rumah Baca Nusa: Mr. Azmy, Kak Yola, and Kak Berlian. These three incredible individuals are deeply dedicated to managing this place, ensuring it becomes a meaningful learning space, especially for the younger generation in the community. Their enthusiasm made this visit a truly memorable experience.
Rumah Baca Nusa is not just a storage space for books but a literacy hub aimed at fostering a love for reading among the community, particularly the youth. It's diverse collection includes children’s stories, educational books, novels, and popular literature.
Strategically located in Desa Ganti, it provides easy access for local children to spend time reading. Beyond just offering books, Rumah Baca Nusa also regularly hosts discussions and workshops.
After the warm welcome, we were invited to explore the collection of books. The students were visibly excited, eagerly selecting books that caught their attention. The variety of colorful book covers kept them busy finding titles that matched their interests.
Reading
We, as tutors, accompanied the students during their reading sessions. It wasn’t just about reading, we also encouraged them to extract key points from the books they chose. This activity aimed to develop their comprehension skills and critical thinking.
Each student was given time to read and jot down interesting points from their chosen books. Following this, we held a brief discussion session where they shared what they learned and expressed their opinions about the content. This moment became one of the most engaging parts of our visit.
Reading
Beyond reading, we had the privilege of hearing stories from the Rumah Baca Nusa management. Mr. Azmi shared the story behind the establishment of this place. He felt compelled to provide access to books for the children in his village, recognizing the importance of reading in building character and expanding the knowledge of the younger generation.
RBN Management Team
The visit to Rumah Baca Nusa not only enriched the students of BLC but also provided us, as tutors, with valuable lessons. We realized the importance of collaboration in creating a supportive learning environment. Rumah Baca Nusa is a living example that limited resources are not a barrier to making a positive impact on society.
Through this interaction, we saw that reading is not merely a pastime but a way to instill positive values, broaden horizons, and ignite imagination. Students from BLC, who initially found reading dull, became more enthusiastic after experiencing the enjoyable atmosphere at Rumah Baca Nusa.
Following this visit, we hope to maintain a good relationship with Rumah Baca Nusa. We plan to conduct regular visits and invite the management to share their knowledge and experiences at Bee Learning Center.
This activity is not the end but the beginning of our small steps toward fostering a better reading culture. We believe that through books, we can open windows to the world, expand perspectives, and build a more intelligent and empowered generation.
This visit left a profound impression on us. We hope the reading enthusiasm we planted today continues to grow and spread, not only among BLC students but also within the wider community. Rumah Baca Nusa has taught us that reading is not just an activity, it is a journey to understand the world.
